Annual Integrative Medicine for the Underserved Conference in Orange County

The 6th annual Integrative Medicine for the Underserved (IM4US) conference will be held the Irvine Marriott this year with the pre-conference session beginning on August 18 and the conference closing on August 20. Integrative health professionals will have the opportunity to come together over workshops and to listen in with plenary speakers all in efforts to “Collaborate to Create Healthy Communities.”

Orange County Integrative Health Initiative Launched

On June 24, the “Live Healthy OC– Empowering a Community of Wellness” initiative was officially launched. The efforts aims to transform community health centers from a disease-focused health delivery model to one that focuses on prevention and health creation through the implementation of integrative health practices and stems back to a partnership formed in 2014 between the Health Funders Partnership of Orange County, the UC Irvine School of Medicine (HFPOC), the Samueli Foundation, the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine (SSCIM), and the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers (Coalition).

OC STEM Ecosystem Institute Congratulated First Cohort

On May 19, the Orange County STEM Initiative (OC STEM) hosted an evening reception at Discovery Cube OC  to both recognize the inaugural cohort of the OC STEM Ecosystem Insitute and welcome its second cohort of nine school district teams. The program is a professional learning institute designed to strengthen Orange County school district leadership through the development of STEM Learning Ecosystems and implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education programs over an intensive 12-month time period.

Inspiring Women Receive Free STEM-Related Training through OC STEM Partnership

Through collaboration with multiple local partners, the Orange County STEM Initiative (OC STEM) developed and implemented the Women Advancing Through Technology (WATT) program. The pilot was designed as a five-week AutoCAD class for 20 female residents from Jamboree’s affordable housing communities in Orange County and was created in hopes to begin addressing the shortage of women in STEM fields to a greater degree than many other professions.

Early Childhood STEM Symposium Held in Anaheim

As a local extension to the annual ECE STEM Conference in Pasadena, OC STEM hosted a one-day conference in Orange County on February 20 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Over 400 attendees gathered together to explore what STEM education looks like in the early childhood setting. The day featured dynamic speakers, interactive presentations, professional dialogue, and a surprise visit from Tinkerbell.
