New Guide Helps Physicians Develop an Integrative Health Model

Providers need the evidence behind the most commonly used complementary and integrative medicine and self-care approaches. The guide entitled “Developing an Integrative Health Model: Who, What, and How” gives concrete tips on how to integrate an expanded set of tools into primary care practices. The goal is to help physicians and other health care providers incorporate self-care and complementary approaches into their mainstream practices as they move toward person-centered, integrative health for improving patient outcomes and satisfaction while delivering a better quality of care.

This guide was written by Dr. Wayne Jonas, Executive Director of the Samueli Integrative Health Programs, in collaboration with health experts to help primary care physicians better serve their patients. Topics include what is integrative health, why and how to refer to outside practitioners, and the evidence behind nutritional counseling, therapeutic yoga, acupuncture, massage therapy, and chiropractic care.
